Last spring semester a couple of the committees on campus (one of which I
am involved in) brought Harry to campus (The University of Tennessee,
Knoxville)! Well, seeing as I am a HUGE fan and have been for years, I was
pretty excited. I got my tickets and they were pretty good. 4th row
behind the pit area. My friend Jennifer and I get to the Coliseum and we
are pumped, but we're a little bit farther from the stage than we had
hoped. Anyways, the concert starts up and the entire place is just going
nuts! It was like a great big party! Then, Harry and his Band come out
into the audience doing a mardi gras parade kind of thing. It was awesome!
he walked right next to our seats! But, we still wanted to be up front!
Well, the concert gods must have been listeneing, because the security guy
who was sitting in front of the pit area got up and WALKED away! I looked
at my friend Jennifer and she looked at me and we ran for it! (grabbing my
friend Dawn on the way!) Right to the edge of the stage!
We were less than a foot away from Harry Connick, Jr!
Needless to say we were ecstatic! He was dancing and singing right in front
of us! He even winked! (of course you all know that it was me he winked at
*grin*). Well, it gets better! Harry grabs his bass and SITS DOWN on the
stage RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! Groovy, eh? So, here's Harry Connick,
Jr... sitting on the stage in front of us jamming! It was incredible!
Unfortunately, the show had to end... and the people all started to clear
out. BUT... we didn't! Since we were on one of the committees that brought
him to Knoxville, we went out by his busses to wait. First his band came
out... groovy guys! Very cool! Then, Harry came out! He walked up to us,
said Hello... asked if we liked the show... shook our hands, said thanks, and
signed our tickets. It was awesome!
We were getting to the car afterwards, talking about what a great time we
had, when Harry's bus pulls out in front of us. So, well, you know... we HAD
to follow it! We jump on the interstate... speed up next to the bus and
start honking and laughing like crazy! Then a face pops up in the bus
window! It's Harry! He waved and smiled. Not a huge deal, but know od
cool none the less. Our night had been awesome! I can't wait to see him
again! And again! And AGAIN!
