Robin Duff

Hi, I'm from North Carolina and have been a Harry fan for about 7 years, when I "accidentally" picked up his self-titled CD, liked the songs, and bought it. Here's my story...

9/20/90: When Harry came through NC with his "We Are In Love" Tour, me and a friend happily drove the 2 and half hours to Charlotte to see him. We had bad seats (about the 25th row) but were thrilled to be in the same auditorium with him.

It is obvious that Harry really enjoys performing and the band backing him was phenomenal. Near the end of the show, he began "It's Alright With Me." He sang the first line, "It's the wrong time..." and stopped. In the silence that followed, I yelled out the next line, "And the wrong place!" I'm still not sure what motivated me to do that. I suppose I was overcome with the thrill of the show. Harry said, "You want to sing it?" I stood up, from the 25th row mind you, and yelled, "Yeah!" "Well, come on down and sing with the big band!" Harry yelled back.

I didn't need to be asked twice! I ran down the aisle toward the stage, and suddenly noticed a breeze across my chest. Well, The little piece of fabric that snaps into my jacket to hide my chest had come unsnapped, so I stood backstage and frantically tried to snap it back into place. My hands were shaking so bad, it was impossible. Out on stage, I heard Harry say, "She stood me up." I peeked out from around the curtain and said "No, I didn't." Harry walked over to see what was wrong. There I stood, shaking like a leaf and giving Harry an eyeful of cleavage. "My dress fell off!" I wailed. Harry waited until I had gotten myself back together. He asked my name, took me by the hand, and led me on stage.

Harry asked if I knew the words, and I assured him I did. He started the band, stood at a mic 3 feet away from me, and we sang the song together. I do theater and have sung with bands before, and Harry's suprise was evident when I opened my mouth. What a thrill. When he started to scat at the end of the song, I nearly collapsed into giggles. I couldn't keep up.

After the song, I returned to my seat. And at the end of the show, Harry said, "Thanks Robin." It will always be one of the most memorable moments of my life. I've seen him every time he came through NC, and even had better seats, but he has never stopped "It's Alright With Me." I'd love to do an encore performance!
