Sam Schneider

My name is Sam Schneider and I live in Nebraska. When I heard that Harry Connick Jr. was coming to Lincoln I called my sister, who went to college there, and made her promise me that she would get tickets. She only knew of him through my CD collection, so she didn't really make a great effort to find tickets. When we finally arrived, I noticed that we were sitting clear in the back of the concert hall. I was disappointed at the time, but when Harry came out I realized that no seat was a bad seat for any of his concerts. He came out in a Nebraska football jersey and the crowd went wild. He played all of his songs from "She" and then paused for his band to take a rest. "What do y'all want to do?" he asked. I screamed "Sing Danny Boy!" The audience, of course knowing his beautiful rendition of the Irish song from the movie Memphis Belle, cheered in agreement. At first he was reluctant, but we didn't back down. And then as if it were planned, the lights went low and he sang the song. The whole audience melted with delight. Then he even brought his dog out on stage for us to meet. It was such a wonderful evening. He seemed so friendly and personal.

To end his two-hour long performance, he started in on "Here Comes the Big Parade." I noticed someone climbing up on stage. So I grabbed my sister and we ripped through the aisles towards Harry. He came right up to us and waved. He helped me up on stage and said "He's got the right idea!" Then he danced with everyone as they jumped up on the stage. He asked us to talk with him after the show on his bus. My sister and I and a few other people talked with Harry for at least 30 minutes. I got his autograph and his picture. But the thing that tickled me most was the fact that my sister, who had barely even heard of Harry prior to the concert, was now in love with his music.
