November 16/19, 1996

Saturday November 16, 1996: the day my friends and I had been waiting for since the show was announced. We piled in my car and drove three hours each way to see the heavenly Harry Connick, Jr. The fan club did not disappoint me with tickets. Our seats in the pit were waiting for us on arrival. The lights went down and the audience erupted in cheers. We had all been waiting patiently, listening to the Jazz album by Queen (Harry's favorite Queen album) and the moment finally arrived. He strutted out on stage in a way only Harry can do, and the audience was his. He started by introducing the band after each member gave a spotlight performance with the other band members playing backup. As you know from reading the other reading the other reviews, he played a combination of songs from Star Turtle and She. He played the most beautiful version of "America" I have ever heard, in a true New Orleans fashion. It nearly brought a tear to my eyes. Harry played a new song that will be in a movie called One Fine Day. This love song melted every girls' heart in the place. I'm sure every girl was thinking "Can you imagine Harry singing this to you?" Fortunately for Jill, she can. Anyway, back to business. Harry played some of my favorites, including Drift Away by Dobie Gray, and Thank You (Falettin Me Be Mice Elf Again) by Sly and the Family Stone. In San Diego, the crowd seemed reluctant to get up and dance, but we had a great time anyway.

In Los Angeles on Tuesday November 19, the crowd had a lot more energy and didn't hesistate to get up and dance the night away. During the encore when they marched through the crowd, Jonathan kissed me on the cheek ;-). Both shows were awesome but L.A. was by far the better show! After both shows we waited for Harry. He never disappoints me by coming out to meet his fans and sign autographs. I have half of my sixteen CD's signed by Harry now, as well as the t-shirt he gave me off his back in August & the towel I caught last November in Irvine. I have seen Harry and his band five times now and I am never dissapointed by the performance. They just keep getting better every time. I made a sign for the San Diego show, that said "Thanks for the music, Connickfan". I wanted Harry and the band to know how much we appreciate them and their music. You guys are all awesome and I love you all ;-) !

If you have not seen Harry and the guys perform, be sure to catch them next time they are in your town. You will be a fan forever! Rock on guys!
