I attended the Harry Connick concert at the Cumberland County Civic
Center last night and was VERY pleased at what I heard! Not only was
this my first concert of Harry's, it was also the first concert I had
ever been to in my whole life. Both Harry and the big band were right
on and seemed to be very excited about being in Portland, Maine (even
though they said that they were "pretty far north").
Harry sang a lot of Cole Porter and a few songs off his new album. He
joked about his father and the large amounts of lobster back stage. The
crowd was very mellow throughout the show. Only a handful of people
were yelling, screaming, and whistling (I was one of the whistlers :-),
until Harry did his encore. THEN people started rushing the stage,
trying to get on it and dance. The bodyguards did their duty at keeping
everyone away from Harry.
After the concert, I got in line to wait for Harry wondering if he was
even going to sign autographs since lots of people had been taking
pictures throughout the concert. Some rude people were even taking
pictures of Harry when he came out, even though the guards said that he
wouldn't sign any autographs if anyone took a picture. I thought for
sure that he wouldn't sign, but Harry (being the nice guy that he is)
did end up signing autographs for everyone that waited!!!! WOW! Talk
about dedication! I got his autograph (he had to ask me how to spell my
name twice) and now am proud to say that I've seen Harry in
concert....and he was my first concert...and definitely won't be my last
Harry concert. Great job Harry and thanks for jazzin' up Portland Maine
a little with your hip New Orleans beat!
